I would like to introduce myself by giving you three keywords:
a. Global Mind
Since I was young, I’ve had the privilege to explore various cultures and learn global mind. When I was 5, I lived in Indonesia and went to international school for 1 year. As a 9th grade school girl, I participated in an academic exchange student program, and spent a year going to school in the United States. There, I was able to meet a lot of people with various cultural backgrounds. Adopting to a different culture and learning English was a challenge, but the program gave me the opportunity to actively interact with not only Americans, but also with other exchange students from all over the world.
After 1 year in the United States, I learned to adopt to new environment and become part of their community.In 2013, I spent 6 months working at a convenience store in Toronto. There, I had the chance to meet and talk with many people.
Through these unique experiences, I learned to understand the true meaning of global mind and respecting difference.
b. Responsibility
From August 2013 to February 2014, I worked part time at a convenience store in Toronto. It was around Christmas time when a strong snow storm hit the town and the entire area went out of power.
The store I worked at was one of the few places with electricity and people swarmed into the store in search of supplies. The store owner wanted to close the store early, because we were all getting very tired after having so many customers, but I suggested we stay open. I felt it was our responsibility to the customers to provide them with the supplies they needed, especially when the store was the only place with electricity in the neighborhood. The store stayed open until after the business hours. This was a chance for me to understand the magnitude of responsibility.
c. Planning
I went to high school and university that are far from my home, which is why time management was very important to me. To use my time more efficiently and make sure I do not forget anything important, I started to make daily plans. It has been many years now, and my planning skills have evolved. It has become part of my daily routine to make detailed plans before taking up certain task.
For example, last year, I set a goal to pass the JLPT test. After strictly following the study plans for 2 months, I passed the test. I decided to study Japanese while I am on my way between home and school, and made plans of how much I will have to study each day. As the result, I was not only able to use my time more wisely, but also pass the test. I can employ this planning skill at work and manage tasks efficiently.
